The bar chart below shows estimated world illiteracy rates by region and by gender for the last year. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant

The graph illustrates the illiteracy rates for last year in many different regions, providing percentages for the two genders as well.
Overall, illiteracy is higher in women for every region in the report. The Asian regions have the highest rates of illiteracy, in contrast to the developed countries whose percentage of inhabitants that do not have reading knowledge is the lowest.
The regions analyzed can easily be divided into two main groups. The Arab States, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa have the highest values of illiteracy for both men and women, above 25 percent and 40 percent, respectively. On the other hand, the developed countries, Latin America, the Caribbean, East Asia, and Oceania can be grouped by having their illiteracy rates below 20 percent for both genders.
Last year, the illiteracy rate was approximately 55 percent and 35 percent for females and males, respectively, which means that most women can’t read. The developed countries inhabitants, such as the Europeans, reported to have illiteracy rates below 5 percent.
