In some countries, there has been an increase in the number of parents who are choosing to educate their children themselves at home instead of sending them school. Do the advantages of home education outweigh the disadvantages?
Recent years have seen a rise in the number of parents choosing to homeschool their children rather than sending them to school. While there are some drawbacks to this phenomenon, they are far outweighed by the benefits.
Admittedly, there are a number of downsides to homeschooling children, the first one being socialization concerns. One can not undermine the importance of socializing and effectively communicating with other people. Social skills are as much instrumental as academic capabilities since both help students to get a well-paid job, and be successful in life. Schools often facilitate such effective communication among students by interactive activities such as ( but not limited to) class discussions and pair work. Naturally, children that are educated at school have a better chance of making friends and becoming eloquent speakers. Furthermore, financial worry is another issue. Homeschooling can be costly, especially one parent stays at home reducing their working hours. In addition to adjusted income, there can be expenses related to supplies, textbooks, field trips depending on how parents choose to educate their children. They put a big financial strain on family’s budget, considering the instance in which one parent has to reduce their working hours. However, they can find a way to homeschool on a budget.
On the other hand, it has much more benefits to educate kids at home. Firstly, homeschooling allows parents to choose pace, and the subjects that meet children’s specific needs. They can pinpoint some strengths ,and areas that should be focused of their child. This flexibility, in turn, leads to more interactive and engaging lessons: for children who may struggle with one-size-fits-all classroom learning. Secondly, homeschooling gives more time to spend with family. This, in turn, helps to foster family bonds and strengthen relationships. Being with your child all the time can help have a better sense of togetherness and understand their needs. Such close-knit families are likely to embrace peace within the family, supporting each other in times of need. Plus, bullying, theft, and substance abuse are major factors in choosing to homeschool children. Having studied at home, children can avoid these kind of socio-behavioral and criminal problems, which can be prevented while homeschooling.
In conclusion, while one should not overlook the downsides to homeschool children, I am inclined to say that it a change for the better since it creates personalized learning, better family relationships and a safe environment.
