Overall, there was a general upward trend in all age groups, with fluctuations in certain years. Notably, the 15- to 24-year-olds consistently dominated cinema attendance, whereas the lowest point was recorded in the figure for people aged 35 and over.
The youth aged 15 to 24 were the most frequent cinema-goers over the two decades. Starting with about 17 %, the figure for this group rose gradually until 1992, before fluctuating between
32 % and 51%. After the stability at approximately 37% during 2000, this percentage saw a sharp increase again, reaching a peak of around 57 %, followed by a slight decline of about a five percentage unit.
In 1984, there was a six-percent disparity between the proportions of people aged 7 to 15 and 25 to 34 who paid a visit to the cinema once a month or more, with the former taking the lead. Despite both groups staying stable in particular periods, they fluctuated considerably with increasing trends, and eventually converged in the final year.
Contrastingly, adults being 35 and over were least interested in going to the cinema, as the figure for this age group stood at about zero during the first decade. This subsequently witnessed a slight rise to approximately 8 % until 1999. In spite of a marginal drop in the following year, the figure, then continued to grow by about thirteen percent points from its initial in 2003.
