Over time, as children grow older, the relationship they have with their parents’ changes. In your opinion, what role should parents have in their adult children’s lives? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
It is known for a fact, that as children mature their relationship with their parents may experience many changes. In my opinion, parents should have a role of their adult children’s supporters and they may continue pass down their knowledge to them.
The relationship between parents and their child experiences ongoing changes during their whole lives. For instance, during teenage years children tend to be more distant from their parents, they learn how to manage on their own and try be more independent. However, during the adult years the way already mature children behave is different. In many cases, adults don’t need the guidance of their parents , but they may still need their support. Throughout their childhood, children form deep connections with their parents. Parents act as their shield, safe place, someone they can always rely upon and someone really close to their heart. It may be difficult for adolescents to completely adapt to the real world where they now need to play the role of an adult, there may be many different obstacles to overcome, such as financial struggles or emotional problems. Which is why they still need their parents as their supporters, someone who they can talk to, or someone who can be there for them.
Even as an adults, people still need someone they may learn from. In case with education, it might be a professor, meanwhile in case with emotions or life lessons, it is often parents that teach us. The whole life’s journey consists of learning new; the advices we ask from them as children differ from what we can enquire from them as adults. In childhood, typical questions could be “How do I make friends?” but as an adult someone might ask “What car do I buy?”.
To conclude, parents play different roles throughout our life and each part they play is important. As children, we depend on them in most of aspects in our life, but as adults we still rely on them in different ways, they continuously teach and support us.
