Some scientists think that computers will soon become more intelligent than humans. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
In the scientific community, it is thought that the intelligence level of computers is likely to be higher than that of humans. While computers are outpacing humans in several fields, I believe that they cannot match us in different other aspects like emotional intelligence and creativity.
The advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) pushing the boundaries of computers. In the past, computers used to much more underdeveloped and were not considered to be able to compete wit humans. However, the advent of AI has changed everything, enhancing what computers can, which we can see in various fields. For instance, medical diagnostics are now mostly conducted by AI technologies which allow specialist in medical field to give the most precise assessments of a medical condition. Another domain where computers powered by AI have already surpassed humans is chess. As the game involves remembering repetitive moves and strategies, computers being superior to humans in terms of data processing have performed that they can easily win grandmasters. Considering these abilities of computers, it can be said they are more intelligent than humans in some regards.
However, computers cannot match humans in every aspect of our lives, even in the future. One trait humans possess and computers lack is emotional intelligence. This absence makes computers less intelligent than humans since they are not able to understand and respond to human emotions. The purpose of creating computers lays in assisting humans in various aspects of life, and one very crucial aspect is emotional understanding. The fact that humans surpass machines while dealing with emotions and feelings at ease shows their intelligent superiority. The creativity we have is another advantage over machines. Although devices enhanced by artificial intelligence can generate art and write stories, these works lack genuine creativity compared to human-created works. For example, AI-generated music can try to mimic styles, but the emotional impact of a Beethoven symphony is a far reach. Consequently, computers may not be able to replicate human intelligence in the near future.
In conclusion, despite the advantageous characteristics of computers in some domains like medicine and chess, I am of the opinion that surpassing humans in emotional comprehension and creativity is not possible for them.
