The action genre was the leading favourite among the male audience. In fact, the action genre alone accounted for almost half of all tickets sold in 2010. Romantic comedy was the least liked film genre for men. On other hand, romantic comedy films were highly favoured by the female audience compared to men. Science fiction was not popular among either gender, but women favoured it considerably less as it was their least favourite film genre.
As mentioned previously, action films were the most popular type of film for men, with 40% of male viewers favouring them. However, they were not as popular among women, with only a quarter of the female audience showing preference for action films. Comedy films, on the other hand, were popular among both genders, with 20% of the audience interested in them. However, romantic comedy was far less popular among men, with only 1 in 20 favouring it. On the flip side, romantic comedy was the most popular film genre among women, with just under one-third of the female audience favouring it. The interest in comedy and romantic comedy is reflected in the pie chart, as comedy films accounted for 24% and romantic comedy for 12% of all tickets sold in 2010. Science fiction and western-themed films were not as popular as other genres for both genders, with only about one-tenth of people favouring them. Additionally, they accounted for a mere 5% of the film tickets sold that year in the USA.
