We are now living in a world where traditional handwriting has fallen out of favor. The primary reasons for this are people’s increased techno-literacy and society’s push for a paperless future. In my view, this decreasing dependency on pens and pencils is a positive shift.
Over the past few decades, there has been a technological revolution, as the world started its massive use of computers and phones. Having a smartphone is a necessity these days, but it should be considered good news, too. Using such gadgets is easy and arguably more convenient than dealing with paper, meaning people are not writing with pens and pencils that much because technology offers more conveniences. This set of benefits includes saving time as well, helping people be more productive during the day.
The other more political reason why people are not encouraged to use pens and pencils is the importance of sustainable development. As a matter of fact, many nations are now embracing the idea of establishing a ‘paperless’ society where the use of paper in the form of mail, written documents, and letters is either minimal or extinct. Environmentally, this makes sense because paper production harms the environment, and utilizing digital technology is more likely to be environmentally friendly.
As for the impact of this development, I am convinced that it is advantageous as a whole. People can save time and help the ecosystems around the world by typing. If the concept of a paperless society is realized faster, pollution will be reduced more effectively in the following decades, thereby addressing the pressing concerns on a global scale, including climate change and air pollution. Otherwise, the more paper there is, the more waste it is going to generate, increasing environmental degradation worldwide.
In summary, people mostly prefer to use technology rather than pens and pencils due to convenience and understanding of technology. The decreased need for pens and pencils is beneficial, especially in the ecological sense.
