Some argue that human nature is inherently aggressive, leading to conflict, while others believe peace is our natural state. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The question of whether human nature is inherently aggressive, leading to conflict, or fundamentally peaceful has long been a topic of debate. While some argue that aggression is hardwired into humans, others contend that peace is our natural state. In my view, both traits are interconnected to human nature, influenced by environmental factors.
On the one hand, it is argued that aggression is a natural part of human nature. It has been biologically and evolutionarily proven that early humans relied on aggression to survive in hostile environments and secure their food, which can be seen in today’s revolutionized world. For example, from wars to political disputes, aggression has become a constant force in human behavior, leading them to fight against their opponents to maintain safety. Therefore, aggression serves as an inherent human nature, causing conflicts.
On the other hand, opponents of the aforementioned view believe that humans are naturally peaceful, with aggression being learned behavior shaped by external factors. Many scientists have studied societies, such as indigenous groups, that live in harmony, valuing peace over conflicts. The research indicates that peace is achievable without external pressures like competition over resources. Thus, humans are considered to be inherently peaceful social beings.
In my opinion, human nature involves both aggression and peacefulness as its core. Aggression may have served as an important trait ancient people needed to possess in order to survive, but a sense of empathy and moral reflection demonstrates that peace is their significant part of nature. Their dominance considerably depends on the environment. For example, fair governance, economic stability, and education reduce the likelihood of aggression and foster peaceful coexistence, in contrast to the idea that inequality and high-stakes competitions promote conflict even in a close-knit community.
In conclusion, while humans possess aggression and peaceful qualities, their dominance is heavily influenced by environment. Societies should focus on conditions that encourage cooperation, empathy, and justice to minimize conflicts and foster peace.
