In today’s crime-ridden world, people have different views as to whether the pressing problem of crime can be tackled, with some suggesting that decisive measures can be taken. Others, however, claim not much can be done to prevent this problem. While both sides have valid points, I agree with the formal opinion.
Critics of this viewpoint cite various reasons to support their stance. With the rise of crime rates, it comes as no surprise that many people assume it is nearly impossible to prevent it, backing up their claims with certain points. Specifically, when offenders commit crimes, whether major or minor ones like murder or speeding, they often find themselves trapped in a vicious cycle of repetition, as they are exposed to the dark world of crime that unleashes the darkness inherent in mankind, reinforcing the notion that crime is an unavoidable part of life. This exposure, coupled with the lack of effective rehabilitation programs, makes it increasingly difficult for offenders to break free from the criminal world, which in turn perpetuates their involvement in crime, often leading to reoffending and further alienation from society. This is particularly true for people with mental disorders like social anxiety who do not get along with community members in the hope of receiving external help to break the chains of their criminal-related past, further exacerbating the issue.
Despite these arguments, in my view, the prevention of crime, at its core, is possible. In an era characterized by technological advancements and the ever-growing digital world, digital preventive initiatives can be utilized. At a governmental level, by harnessing the full potential of modern devices such as AI features, governments can not only predict the possibilities of criminal activities occurring due to AI-driven predictive tools with pinpoint accuracy, as governments can provide the framework for AI tools to analyze and review past criminal actions to draw reasonable conclusions about the likelihood of such actions happening again in the future, but also can shift public attitudes by raising awareness about the consequences of crime and promoting prosocial and anti-criminal behavior through social media, thereby resulting in a society where individuals are more conscious of their actions and the impact of crime, fostering a collective effort towards crime reduction and prevention. For example, in a society where such measurements are implemented strategically, with advanced surveillance systems and predictive policing, potentially leading to a significant decline in crime rates.
In conclusion, while both sides have justifiable points, I contend that crime can be prevented with strategic moves like exploiting modern devices, ultimately leading to low crime rates.
