In an era characterized by an unprecedented technological revolution, it has become increasingly common for people to debate over which is the most effective way for children to study, with some suggesting that online materials are more convenient and others arguing that kids should study with traditional printed materials. While both arguments are valid, I side with the former notion, as it presents a set of benefits as opposed to the latter one.
Critics of online materials cite various reasons to support their stance. If people digitalize the education system and start to use online materials like e-books, virtual classrooms, and educational software, there may be a digital divide in schools, which exacerbates existing socioeconomic disparities among students, like unequal access to technology and varying levels of digital literacy. Consequently, pupils from low-income backgrounds are most affected, as they are less likely to have access to gadgets, such as cell phones, tablets, laptops, and reliable internet connectivity at home, thereby making it significantly harder for them to succeed in a digitized classroom environment.
Despite these arguments, in my view, virtual learning resources do more good than harm. When kids use online materials, they gain the opportunity to explore topics beyond the school curriculum, such as coding, music, or foreign languages, which sparks curiosity and creativity. As a result, they develop new interests and new skills like critical thinking, adaptability, and independent learning, thereby expanding their knowledge base and enhancing their ability to engage in continuous learning. At a time when digital technology is ubiquitous, using e-learning tools plays a pivotal role in broadening learning opportunities.
In conclusion, although individuals may argue that traditional printed materials are better for some reasons, I remain convinced that digital educational materials are far more effective for the aforementioned reasons.
