Some people think that newspapers are the best way to learn about news. However, others believe that they can learn news more effectively through other media
The topic of effective ways to consume news has garnered significant attention and has been the cause of many discussions over the recent years, with some people claiming that it is best to learn about news through newspapers. However, others, including me, argue that we get to know about the latest news with the help of other types of media, such as social media, since it is easier to spread new information on such networking platforms.
On the one hand, newspapers, old method of keeping people well-informed about what is going on in the world, works best among a senior demographic. In other words, these people were born and raised in the era of various means of local newspapers, apparently not used to networking websites, as they mostly prefer to stick to their own way of consuming new information. Therefore, it is rational to assume that newspaper would continue to dominate as the main way to spread news in countries like Japan, where the most significant part of the whole population accounts for people aged 60–80.
On the other hand, I would still believe that social media can be far more effective with its ease to share within the society. There are numerous platforms, including but not limited to Telegram, Instagram, and YouTube, which offer a forwarding feature for its users, making it easy to exchange specific information. In contrast, it is almost impossible to share news with loved ones through newspapers, requiring huge amount of effort from people, especially from the elderly. For this reason, I claim that the popularity of social media is expected to only increase.
In conclusion, although newspapers might be popular among older people, I am of the opinion that social media provides relatively more effective ways to inform the society.
