Some people think that we should invent a new language for international communication. Will the benefits of this outweigh the problems associated with it?
It is argued that a new language to communicate internationally needs to be introduced. While the creation of a new language can be beneficial, I believe that it is more likely to be disadvantageous.
It is true that individuals can benefit from the invention of a new language in several ways. The key benefit is that a new language specifically designed for international communication can eliminate language barriers, thus enhancing efficiency in interactions. Because of that, business negotiations, scientific research, and diplomatic affairs can be carried out smoothly since there will be no misunderstandings due to linguistic differences. Another benefit may be seen in the job sector. Increased job opportunities in language education and innovation related to that field may contribute to economic growth, reducing the unemployment rate and improving the necessary technology to promote the new language.
In my view, however, the creation of a new international language will present more drawbacks. First and foremost, it is unclear whether it will be adopted and spread widely, as there will surely be some resistance from people who are reluctant to invest time and effort into learning a completely new language. This potential negative reaction from the public hinders widespread adoption, resulting in all the resources allocated for the invention going to waste. Introducing a new language also undermines the importance of existing languages. In other words, it is highly likely to marginalize some languages, which leads to a loss of linguistic diversity and heritage among cultures.
In conclusion, I agree that inventing a new language provides a number of benefits, especially in terms of effective communication with greater understanding and boosting the economy with a higher employment rate, but they still pale in comparison to the major downsides such as lack of adoption and devaluing other languages.
