Task 1

The pie charts illustrate the distribution of volunteers across six types of organizations, namely environmental, sports, educational, healthcare, arts, and others, in 2008 and 2014.
Overall, environmental organizations saw the highest proportion of volunteers in 2014, overtaking educational groups, which experienced a sharp decline. While sports and environmental organizations grew significantly, the percentages of volunteers in healthcare, arts, and other groups remained either stagnant or decreased.
In 2008, educational organizations accounted for the largest share of volunteers, at 24%. However, this figure almost halved by 2014, dropping to 17%. By contrast, the percentage of volunteers in environmental groups increased substantially from 21% to 29%, making it the leading sector. Sports organizations also saw notable growth, rising by 10 percentage points from 15% to 25%.
Healthcare organizations experienced a minor increase in the share of volunteers, moving from 7% to 8% over the period. In contrast, arts and other organizations saw declines, with arts decreasing from 18% to 12% and others falling from 15% to 9%. These sectors became less significant contributors to volunteer engagement by 2014.
In summary, while environmental and sports organizations gained popularity among volunteers, educational and arts groups experienced considerable declines, reflecting changing priorities in volunteerism.
