Task 1
The two graphs give information about the population of male and female prisoners in a particular European country from 1911 to 2001.
Overall, male prisoners experienced an upward trend, while female ones dropped. Generally, there was a significant difference in numbers between the two gender prisoners.
In 1991 the total of imprisoned men began to rise from 19,000, whereas the number of incarcerated women started increasing from 3,400, which was the highest record figure for female inmates at that time. For 30-40 years, both gender detainees experienced a downward trend: males slightly decreased and reached 10,000, while females dramatically declined and stood at the lowest position of all time. However, the prison populations of the men fluctuated and returned to their original position of around 20,000 in 1971. At the same time, the female population minimally rose to 1,400 in 1961. Subsequently, male inmates started growing decade by decade and hit a peak with 40,500 in 2001. Finally, the number of incarcerated women exhibited steady fluctuations and reached approximately 1,550 at the end of the period. what about that one
