The bar chart compares three different ages of children on the basis of common activities as a part of their bedtime routines in the USA. Overall, reading is by far the most popular bedtime activity among all the age groups in question, while watching TV and eating are the activities that are carried out by a significantly smaller percentage of them. Brushing the teeth becomes more common as children grows up, whilst the opposite scenario is true for the case of having a bath.
Reading exhibits far bigger figures as a part of children’s bedtime routine, with 70% of those aged 4-5 doing so before going to bed, closely followed the youngest age range (1-3) with about 65%, while the figure for the oldest ones makes up three fifths. The proportion of children falling into the 1-3 age category who brush their teeth as a bedtime activity accounts for 30%, and this figure increases as they become older with 45% of the 4-5 age group following this routine, slightly less than 50% of the next age category (6-8). By contrast, the reverse is the case for having a bath, the percentage ranges from 40% to about 34%.
Regarding the activities which show considerably smaller numbers, the percentage of those aged 4-5 who watch TV before going to sleep constitutes 20%, as opposed to the remaining age ranges whose figure stands at an almost identical 15%. As for eating, 20% of 1-3-year-old children do so as a part of their daily bedtime routine, double that the next older age group and this is closely followed by the oldest one with approximately 9%.
