The bar chart compares the proportion of children in three different age groups who do five various activities (reading, brushing teeth, having a bath, watching TV, and eating) as a part of their bedtime routine in the USA.
Overall, the majority of children in all age groups prefer to read at nights before going to bed, while watching TV and eating seem to be the least common for all of these age categories. Brushing teeth becomes more and more favorite bedtime activity as children get older, whereas the reverse is true for having a bath and eating.
Looking at the figure for children aged 1-3 years old in more detail, reading is the most common activity among them, making up approximately 65%, and this is followed by having a bath at exactly 40%. Three-tenths of total children brush their teeth before going to bed, in comparison with 20% and about 15% of children who like eating and watching TV, respectively.
Regarding the percentage of 4 to 5 years old children, 70% of them engage in reading, which is the highest, far higher than that of brushing teeth and having a bath, with respective figures of roughly 45% and 35%. Watching TV is significantly lower when it comes to bedtime routine activity, at 20%; however, it is twice as high as the share of children who eat at nights.
Reading is again the most common bedtime routine activity among children who are 6 to 8 years old with just under 60%. Brushing teeth and having a bath are in the second and third positions in this age group, accounting for 50% and about 32%, correspondingly, while the proportion of those like watching TV comprises around 18%. Almost 10% of children eat before a bedtime, making it the lowest.
