The bar chart details the recycling of four types of household waste in a certain country in the years 1992, 1997 and 2002. Overall, the trend for recycling all the used household items given was upward over time, with glass and paper recycled the most and plastic the least. In terms of the degree of change, glass showed the most dramatic rises, whereas the opposite was true for plastic. In addition, can was the only item where the rise was not consistent.
Regarding glass and paper, they topped the chart as the most recycled household waste in all years studied. In 1992, the percentage of paper recycled accounted for around a quarter, compared to glass at approximately 18%. By 1997, their figures had experienced noticeable increases, making progress to about 32% (paper) and 28% (glass). Their upward trends continued, with the most significant growth recorded in the recycling of glass to nearly a half in 2002, while the percentage of paper recycled reached around 38%. Clearly, glass had emerged as the most recycled waste by the end of the given period.
As for the remaining data, cans and plastic were recycled in relatively lower proportions. Making up about 18% initially, the proportion of cans recycled dropped to roughly 12% in 1997 before making recovery to around 23% after 5 years. Meanwhile, plastic represented the lowest figures in all years shown, with its initial point standing at 10%. After slight improvement to around 12% in 1997, the figure remained the same in 2002.
