The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.

The line graph illustrates the quantities of goods transported in different ways (road, water, rail and pipeline) in the United Kingdom between 1974 and 2002. Figures are given in million tons. In general, it shows that all of the goods transported in this country increased over the period, with some fluctuations.
Turning to the details, we can see that road was ranked first and remained in the same level throughout the period, initially accounting for about 70. After some up and downs it saw its peak just under 100 in the end. The next largest way of transportation was through water, having just under 40 in 1974, which started to rise by approximately 59 in 1982 and remained unchanged until 1994, ultimately reached 65 by the end of the period after a slight decline.
As for others, rail fluctuated a lot, starting at 40 in 1974 and saw falls in both 1984 and after a decade as well, but restored its level by 2002. Although pipeline was the least popular among 4, it experienced gradual rise without any downward trends until 2002, reaching about 21 with around 6 at the beginning.
