The number of people who are interested in and wearing fashionable clothes is increasing. Is this a positive or negative development?
More and more people are chasing fashion and desire to have fashionable outfits. Although economic boost and creativity are seen as advantageous, environmental impact and social disparity may become disastrous.
On the one hand, in an era of consumerism, many aspects of society have shifted, including fashion and clothes. This is, initially, beneficial for not only people themselves but also for the economy as well. But how? When there is high demand for designer labels and modern clothing, many companies focus on covering that demand and making a profit out of it, and the government gets a proportion of the income through taxes they set. Secondly, catching someone’s attention is tough, thus it encourages designers and consumers to be more creative when they are offering or selecting a certain sort of clothes. Generally, thanks to the increased interest in fashion, it takes us to triple-sided benefit: people may enrich their self-expression, the economy witnesses growth, creativity of fashion producers is boosted along with their income.
On the other hand, despite having the above-mentioned positive sides, fashion trends are more likely to be negative for some reasons. First of all, all over the globe, there are dozens of companies are utilizing natural resources extensively, the fashion sector is no exception, however. For example, one of the well-established companies – Lacoste manufactures luxurious accessories and fashion items, such as bags, shoes, and many more, where crocodiles’ skin is used as materials causing many of them to become extinct annually. Furthermore, to produce fashionable clothes requires much effort, and finance, meaning such labels are unlikely to be affordable for most of the population. Unfortunately, today, social status is crucial for the majority of people; clothes are one of the ways to ensure it. As a consequence, this leads to inequality in society, another issue that already exists and has to be addressed.
In conclusion, fashionable clothing is escalating interest in publicity. Even though the economic rise and enhanced creativity of individuals may seem positive, it turns out to be negative due to environmental effects and social division.
