Overall, almost all countries experienced an increase in figures, excepting Hong Kong, which numbers recorded a decline. Additionally, the only country that remained unchanged was France.
In France, tourists arrivals rates maintained its position as the most popular destination, receiving 76 million tourists in both years with no change. The United States followed and experienced a slight increase in numbers from 66 to 67 million, illustrating 1.5% growth. Similarly, Spain demonstrated a rise of 1.8%, with arrivals growing to 1 million in total. The UK saw a 3.6% growth, attracting 57 million tourists in 2010 compared to lower 55 million in previous year.
Among the remaining countries, Italy witnessed a 2.3% increase, with the figures rising up to 1 million. Similarly, Turkey recorded a significant surge by 33%, jumping from 33 to 45 million, which is equal to Italy’s rates. More notable was China with increase of 55%. Germany also saw growth, with arrivals more than doubling from 11 to 23 million,marking a 109% rise. In contrast, Hong Kong was the only country to experience a decline, with tourist numbers dropping by 11% from 9 to 10 million in the final year.
