Nowadays, technology is increasing rapidly and this has also affected to the book industry. With the rise of books comes the decline in paper books. Some people think that is a good step forward but other do not. In my opinion, there are more advantages than disadvantages in e-books.
Technical development introduced some advantages to book industry. One of the main merits of e-books is that it helps read many books easily on one device without having to carry heavy books. Another benefit of e-books is editing shrifts of the text and another one is you can send books to your friends which lives on the other side of the world. The possibility of editing shrifts of texts is may be perfectly appropriate for people with low vision. Last but not least, it useful for environment. It helps reduce the number of trees cut down for paper.
Just like the other side of the coin, every advantage comes with its drawbacks. There are some downsides of e-books. For example, sitting on the phone a lot of time may impact to our health, especially at nights. This may be the main reason of insomnia because the light from phone may block the hormone of sleeping, melatonin, which can lead to more people having trouble sleeping. Another drawback of e-books can be the phone’s running out of battery or losing internet connection because, with these problems you cannot read books stable. Last but not least Printed books have their own unique world—such as the sound of turning pages or the smell of the paper. These sensations help readers become fully immersed in the story. In e-books, however, these experiences are missing.
In conclusion, with the rise of e-books comes the decline in paper books. Some people see this as a good step forward while others do not. E-books have more advantages than disadvantages. In my opinion, saving trees alone can compensate for all the drawbacks of e-books and in the evening, the light from phones can be harmful to our health. To counteract this, we can read books during the day and hold them at a distance from our eyes.
